Abstract

692,395. Rolling. PETERSON, E. T. July 6, 1951 [July 13, 1950], No. 16123/51. Class 83 (iv). In a cooling bed comprising two intermeshing sets of carry-over bars, relatively movable up and down and backward and forward, one end of the first set of bars is pivotally mounted, the opposite end of the second set is pivotally mounted, an eccentric is operatively connected to the other end of the second set, and a rocker, pivotally mounted intermediate its ends, is connected at one end to the eccentric and at the other end to the other end of the first set of bars. One set of carry over bars 20 is supported at its ends on beams 23, 24, and the other set 21 is supported at its ends on beams 25, 26, the beams being preferably sectionalized every 15 feet laterally of the bed. Rockers 50 pivoted at 51 each engage at one end 54 beneath an eccentric roller 48, Fig. 5, carried on a crank portion 34 of an eccentric electric motor-driven shaft 32, made up of sections joined by tubular connections 36 which allow of expansion or contraction, the crank portions 34 being connected to the beam 25 by eccentric straps 46, bolted at 61, 62, springs under the bolts 62 allowing of expansion and contraction. The other end of each rocker is pivotally connected to one end of an adjustable link 56 whose other end is pivotally connected to the beam 24. The beam 23 is pivotally mounted on foundations 31, and the beam 26 carries rollers 63, 63<SP>1</SP> supported on tracks 64, the rollers 631 at one end of each section of beam 26 being without flanges, to permit lateral movement on the track to allow for expansion and contraction. In operation, the set 20 pivots at one end on the beam 23 and moves up and down at the other end under the action of the shaft 32 and rockers 50, acting through the links 56. The set 21 moves up and down and back and forth at the end supported on the beam 25 under the action of the eccentric straps 46, and at the end supported by the beam 26, pivots about the rollers 63, 63<SP>1</SP> and also moves back and forth on the tracks 64. The cooling bed may be used with any combination of run-in table, pack-amiealing bed and run-out table, e.g. Fig. 1, shows a run-in table 67 having individual electric driving motors 68, lifting apron 70 and kick-off mechanism 71, and a run-out table comprising eccentrically operated shuffle bars 73, raised or depressed by levers 75, and run-out rolls 76. Other forms of known run-in tables appear in Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown).
