[Class 83 (iv)] Roller tables.-In a cooling bed longer than 25C feet for a rolling mill. groups of walking bars for feeding the stock across the bed are actuated from separate drives which are mechanically interconnected by a torsion shaft of length substantially less than that of the bed. The walking bars 56 on frames 55 are arranged on both sides of a double run-in table having kick-offs which transfer the work to either one of a pair of pack mechanisms 57, Fig. 8, from which the work is transferred by the walking bars forming part of the cooling bed to a pair of inclined beds 58 and run-out tables. The walking bar supporting frames 55 on one side of the bed and in one half of the length of the bed are raised and lowered in the conventional manner by a motor 32, through a torsion shaft 35, Fig. 4, reduction gears 34, connecting rod 41, rocker arm 43, push rods 48, opposed bell-crank arms 53 and upwardly and downwardly moving push rods 54. The backward and forward motion of the bars and frames is similarly obtained from the reduction gears 34 through a connecting rod 62, Fig. 2, rocker arm 63, push-rod 74, Fig. 8, arms 76, torsion bars 72 and opposed universally jointed push-rods 82. The motion of the walking bars in the other half of the length of the cooling bed is obtained through an identical system driven by a second pair of motors mechanically connected through torsion shafts 85 to the motors 32. The shafts 85 run in bearings 90 on the machine bed and are pre. ferably made in sections 86, Fig. 2, coupled by flanges 92 keyed on the ends of the sections.
