Class 100(iv) [Also in Group XIX] In the machine described in Specification 692,096 wherein printing is effected by the selective control of a number of elements forming different characters the printing of zeros to the left of the first significant figure can be suppressed if desired in tabulation entries by control circuits allocated one to each of the various denominations and which are selectively connected to an energizing source so as to cause operation of print elements in the print heads. Fig. 3 shows four control circuits, and the first El deals with figures of the highest denominational order or amount entries where it is required to print all zeros and the other three circuits T1, T2, T3 deal with the figures of the three lowest denominational orders or a tabulation entry. Each circuit contains (a) contacts 111 which are closed by a relay 81 in a circuit normally causing printing of zeros when the index 0 is sensed and (b) contacts 113, 119 which are opened and closed respectively when a relay 110 in the printing circuits associated with the digits 1-9 are energized and (c) sockets 116, which are bridged by links 115 according to the control required. Printing is effected by connecting the power source 85 to the conductors 71 which lead to the various element magnets forming the figure 0. In the case of circuit El the power is connected via a print cam C5, conductor 121, link 115, wire 114, contacts 113 (digit relay 110 not operated), and contacts 111 since relay 81 is operated. When the link 115 is connected across the lower two sockets 116 as shown the circuit El is permanently connected to the print cam C5, whereas the absence of a link in circuit T1 ensures that a zero is never printed. If a zero occurs in circuit T2 the circuit 112, 111, 113, 114 is extended by a link 115 in upper position as shown to wire 117 and only if contacts 119 of circuit Tl are closed is it extended to the print cam 121, contacts 119 only closing when the digit relay 110 is operated. Circuit T3 will effect printing of a zero if there is a significant figure in either circuit Tl or T2 since the wire 120 is extended to the print cam either by contacts 119 of circuit T2 or by wire 114 and link 115 to contacts 119 of circuit T1.
