Abstract
690,619. Pickling. ELECTRO-CHEMICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., SMART, A., and HERBERT, A. T. Jan. 3,1951 [Jan. 25, 1950], No. 1951/50. Class 82(ii) [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVI] In apparatus for carrying out electrolytic or acid-immersion processes comprising a number of stages, the work is transferred through the various stages by an intermittently acting device comprising one more pairs of beams, the beams of each pair expending respectively along the two sides of the apparatus and being mounted on cranks so that each pair of beams executes a circular movement during each rotation of the cranks the upward movement of the beams being utilized to lift the work which is carried directlv by the .beams on their forward movement to the next stage of the process, in which the work is deposited on the downward movement of the beams. In the arrangement shown. eight process tanks 10<SP>1</SP> ... 10<SP>8</SP> are provided, the tank 10<SP>1</SP> being associated with a pair of auxiliary beams 16. 17 and the tanks 10<SP>2</SP>... 10<SP>8</SP> being associated with a pair of' main beams 14, 15. The main beams are connected at one end to crank arms 19, 20 on a crank-shaft 21 and at the other end to crank arms 22, 23 on a crank-shaft 24. The crank-shafts are driven through worm gearing from an electronically-controlled motor 27. The baskets 32 carrying the articles to be treated are perforated and are provided with trunnion-like extensions 33 which can be engaged by forked attachments on an endless-chain conveyer 34. The conveyer brings the empty baskets from the unloading to the loading position and then deposits them in turn in position over the tank 10<SP>1</SP>. The beams operate in unison to move the baskets from tank to tank. Means are provided which include a push rod 35 reciprocated by a drive unit 38, whereby as the baskets are lifted they are rocked to drain off solution before being transferred to the next tank. Each of the auxiliary beams is provided with supports 39, Fig. 2, to which baskets are transferred in turn. The beam is carried by crank arms 25, 25<SP>1</SP> rotated by chains which are driven through endless chains 42, 7 from the crank-shaft 21, Fig. 1. The auxiliary beams are arranged to advance each basket along the tank 10<SP>1</SP> in four stages.
