Abstract

690,085. pH measurements. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS, Inc. Sept. 24, 1951, No. 22272/51. Class 37. A glass electrode for pH measurement comprises a glass tube 15 with a bulb 12, the ratio of the external area of the bulb 10 that of a sphere of the same diameter being between 0.4 and 0.65. This is stated to increase the strength of the assembly. The tube 15 contains a second tube 19 with a platinum electrode 26 connected by solder 29 to the connecting wire 28. The glass of the tube 15 has an electrical resistivity 100,000 times that of the glass of the bulb 12. The diameter of the bulb 12 is from less than 1 mm. up to several mm. and its thickness is 0.05-1.00 mm.
