Class 59 In a gyratory crusher comprising a gyratory head 5 co-operating with a crushing shell 1 carried by a frame 2, the head having a depending shaft portion 6 engaged by a rotary eccentric sleeve 31 to gyrate the head, a bearing element 14 is provided which is adjustable vertically relatively to the frame hub 3 and has bearing surfaces 18, 30 supporting the eccentric sleeve and head respectively. The eccentric sleeve is rotated by means of a ring gear 32 engaging a rotatable pinion gear 33 the shaft 34 of which. is journalled in a housing 28 secured to a lateral extension 27 of the bearing member. Dust sealing means comprise a ring 37 secured to the head and a skirt 40 surrounding the upper part of the hub 3. The bearing member, together with the eccentric sleeve, is adjustable by means of a hydraulic mechanism comprising a piston 21. fixed to the frame, slidable within a cylinder fixed to the bearing element. A conduit 22 connects the expansible chamber 20 formed between the piston and the inner end of the cylinder, through a ceversible pump 23, with a fluid reservoir 24. The conduit is also connected through a check valve 25 with a hydraulic accumulator 26. In operation, fluid is pumped into the chamber 20 until the member 14 is raised sufficiently to place the mantle 7 of the head 5 in the desired setting for crushing in connection with the concave 4. Should abnormal crushing conditions occur, fluid in the chamber 20 is forced to enter the accumulator 26 permitting the member 14 to move downwardly in the frame hub 3. When the abnormal conditions are cieared, the excessive pressure in the accumulator forces the member 14 to rise to return the head 5 to its set position.
