689,826. Driving sound reproducing machines. POLLOPAS PATENTS, Ltd., June 18, 1951 [July 5, 1950], No. 14382/51. Class 40 (ii). In a driving arrangement for a sound record turntable in which means are provided for maintaining the turntable at any desired constant angular velocity or varying the angular velocity automatically and continuously during the playing of the record, the turntable 1 is supported on three rollers 6, 7, 8, one 8 of which is driven by, and axially displaceable along, a continuously rotating drum 14 whose velocity is adapted to be varied by interchangeable gearing 31, 32, 33, 34 in order to provide a number of ranges of velocity of the turntable 1. When constant angular velocity of the turntable is required a leadscrew 10 controlling the axial position of the wheel 8 is manually set by means of a handwheel 20. When however it is desired to automatically and continuously vary the angular velocity of the turntable, such as when reproducing from a disc record, or from a coil of magnetically recorded tape or wire recorded at constant linear velocity, the leadscrew is driven by worm gearing coupled to the turntable by a friction pulley 40:
