Abstract

In order to identify soldered joints, a rosin or rosin-based soldering flux is coloured with a dye or pigment which is non-inflammable, electrolytically neutral and retains its colouring property during and after application of heat and which is not deleterious to the dielectric strength of the flux or its residue nor to the electrical characteristics of the components to which the flux is to be applied, e.g. Rhodamine BS or Malachite green. The coloured flux may be in liquid, paste or powder form and may constitute the core of a solder stick.
