Abstract

689,010. Electrostatic filters. RESEARCH CORPORATION. June 28, 1951 [Dec. 5, 1950], No. 15369/51. Class 39(i) In an electrostatic filter the inclined walls of hoppers 42, 43 for directing precipitated matter to discharge outlets 44, 45 are flushed with cleaning liquid supplied from conduits arranged below the electrodes. The supply conduits may be in the form of troughs 59 fed by leader pipes 60, with or without aprons 78 for guiding the liquid, or in the form of horizontal pipes 70 apertured to provide upwardly directed sprays. The liquid is pumped from the tank 47. The discharge conduit 46 from the hoppers 44 and 45 terminates below the level of the liquid in the tank 47 to form a liquid seal. The supply of liquid to the tank 47 is regulated by a float-controlled valve 49. In modifications the washing liquid may be directed against the side walls of the hopper, and the bottom of the hopper may slope to one side rather than towards the centre as shown.
