Abstract

Refractories are made by firing a shaped mass formed from finely ground alumina at a temperature of at least 1300 DEG C. and not substantially above 1520 DEG C, Although not essential a temporary binding agent which is completely eliminated during the firing process, for example soluble starch, may be employed. A linear shinkage of substantially less than 5 per cent is generally obtained. Specification 23071/08, [Class 87], is referred to.
