[Also in Group XXIII] An automatic screw-making machine comprises a rockable carrier arm 17 which holds a screw while a cutter disc 19 slots the head and which then moves the screw to a position where a chisel or like burr-removing tool 13 removes the burr from the slotted head. When the head of a counter-sunk screw 22 has been slotted, a cam rocks a lever 3a, 3b to depress the chisel 13. Movement of the chisel is controlled by an adjustable inclined plate 7 and springs 15, 16. If the screw-heads are of cheese or round form an additional motion is imposed on the chisel by an adjustable plate 27 mounted on an arm 23 rocked by a cam 24 which turns with the lever 3 and engages screws 25, 26. The plate 27 engages a pin rigidly linked with the chisel 13. The tool may be a milling- cutter or a grinding-wheel.
