Abstract
688,216. Gas-fire radiants. PARKINSON STOVE CO., Ltd., and ROGERS. R. J. Dec. 27, 1950 [Sept. 29, 1949]. No. 25015/49. Class 126 A radiant for a gas-fire comprises avertical hollow shell of open mesh metal and a core of refractory material extending longitudinally within but spaced from the shell and of substantally the same length as the shell, adapted to be supported above a burner providing a tube of flame or a series of flames directed uwardly towards the space between the shell and core. An open mesh metal shell e, tapering slightly towards the top, is flared at the bottom and welded to an inwardly turned lip on a cylindrical metal skirt l with air admission slots g. The skirt l is supported on a base m secured to the burner by an elbow s screwed on to a spigot r passing through the base. The shell e is turned over at the top to leave an opening of less diameter than the refractory core a'and is welded to arms h extending from a wire ring j fitting in the axial recess in the top of the core a. The lower end of the substantially cylindrical core a is slightly tapered and provided with an axial recess into which is cemented a 'spigot b cemented into a control recess in the refractory top c of the circular burner d. A sheet metal baffle v spaced from the skirt l serves to protect the front of the fire, and the floor on which it stands, from damage. The burner d is a hollow annular casting open at its top to receive a steatite top c pierced with burner holes. The burner is supplied with non- aerated gas from a pipe t, and the assembly is primarily intended for use in portable gas fires of the reflector type. The inturned upper edge of the metal shell may engage a shoulder formed on the refractory core.
