Abstract

Calcium cyanamide is produced from calcium carbide and nitrogen by application of the fluidized bed process. The process may be carried out in a plurality of consecutive fluidized beds. The temperature necessary for reaction may be obtained by electrical resistance heating or by circulating hot nitrogen or by the addition of aluminium powder. The temperature may be reduced by adding catalytic substances for example alkali or alkaline earth metal chlorides or fluor spar.
