Abstract

Polyhalogenated derivatives of polyphenylbenzenes other than biphenyl are made by passing a gaseous mixture having a halogen basis of the polyphenylbenzene through a fluidized bed which is maintained (a) in a constant dense state of fluidization by the gaseous mixture and (b) at a higher temperature than the dewpoint of the desired product. Examples describe the production of polychloro-terphenyls and -quaterphenyls.
