A golf-ball 14 is suspended by an inextensible flexible strand 12 from a collar 15 which can pivot about a horizontal axis 13 and, when the ball is struck, can rotate a shaft 11A in a casing 1.0 mounted so as to overhang a base 60, a finger 36A on the shaft rotating a gear 36 to drive a range indicator 17 visible through an aperture 52. A resetting knob 51 is provided. The degree of pivoting of collar 15 about axis 13 indicates the amount of "pull" or "slice". In a modification (Fig. 6), the strand 12 is suspended from the outer part 34 mounted on the ball-end 22 of a fixed shaft 21 and driving a gear 36 by sliding pins 35, the gear 36 actuating the range indicator 38 through a flexible drive 37. If the ball is "pulled" or "sliced" the pins 35 are slid inwards to cause contact members 23, 24 to supply current from a battery 33 to one or other of indicator lamps 27, 28. According to the first Provisional Specification the shaft from which the ball is suspended is both rotatable to actuate the range indicator and axially movable. When the ball is "pulled", or "sliced", the rod to which the ball is attached fulcrums about a rotatable sleeve surrounding the shaft axially to cause switches, pointers or markers to indicate the degree of "pull" or "slice". Alternatively, the sleeve may be axially movable and the shaft rotatably fixed. According to the second Provisional Specification, the degree of "pull" or "slice" can be ascertained by comparison between the plane in which the ball rotates and a fixed scale.
