Abstract

The "stretch-spinning" process is applied to the production of filaments, hairs or bristles from polyacrylonitrile or interpolymers thereof with other unsaturated compounds, e.g. vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, methacrylic esters and acrylic amides. Thus, a solution of the polymer in dimethyl formamide, butyrolactone, a -pyrrolidone, N-formyl pyrrolidone or N-formyl pyrrolidine is extruded into water or an aqueous solution which flows in the direction of extrusion. The aqueous spinning liquid is preferably recycled, a portion being bled-off to recover the solvent therefrom by distillation. The filaments may be after-stretched in liquids, air or gases.
