Abstract

N - (3 : 4 - Dialkoxyphenylacetyl) - 31 : 41 - dialkoxyphenalkylamines are manufactured by heating under reduced pressure a mixture of a 3 : 4-dialkoxyphenylacetic acid and a 3 : 4-dialkoxyphenalkylamine of the respective general formul <FORM:0685668/IV (b)/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 represent alkoxy radicals of 1-3 carbon atoms, and X and Y represent hydrogen or alkyl radicals and together contain not more than 3 carbon atoms. Preferably a mixture of equimolecular proportions of the reactants is heated to a temperature between its melting-point and about 200 DEG C. (preferably about 100-160 DEG C.) under a pressure below about 400 mm. Hg (preferably below about 100 mm. Hg) while removing the water liberated. Examples describe the preparation of N - (3 - ethoxy - 4 - methoxy- and 3 - methoxy - 4 - ethoxy - phenylacetyl) - 31 - ethoxy - 41 -methoxy- and 31 : 41-dimethoxy-phenethylamine, N - (3 : 4 - dimethoxyphenylacetyl) - 31 : 41 - dimethoxyphenethylamine, N - (31 - methoxy - 41 - ethoxyphenylacetyl) - 1 - (311 : 411-dimethoxyphenyl) - 2 - propylamine and - 2 - (311 : 411 - dimethoxyphenyl) - 3 - butylamine, and N - (31 - propoxy - 41 - methoxyphenylacetyl) - 2 - (311 : 411 - diethoxyphenyl) - 3 - pentylamine.
