Button-sewing attachments.-A frame 15 fixed to the presser-bar carries a shaft 19 with two cams 20, 21 intermittently rotated in one direction by the needle-bar, and a plate 30 carrying button-holding means is reciprocated relatively to the frame member along and across a given line by means of the respective cams. In the form shown the plate 30, having a serrated work-engaging portion 96, is pressed against the underside of the frame 15 by a leafspring 36 located laterally between lugs 50 on the plate 30 and secured to the frame by a screw 35 which passes through a clearance hole in the plate. Lateral oscillation of the plate about the screw 35 is produced by a lever 38 pivoted on the screw, engaging the cam 20 by means of a roller 39, and carrying a pin 44, adjustably clamped in a slot 42, for engagement with a slot 43 in the plate 30; adjustment of the pin 44 along the slots 42, 43, which may be assisted by graduations along the latter slot, alters the amplitude of the oscillations of the plate. Endwise shift of the plate 30 to transfer the stitching from one pair of holes to the other of a four-hole button at each half-revolution of the shaft 19 is produced by the cam 21 acting on a follower 53 which slides on the frame 15 to rock a vertical member 58 pivoted to the frame at 59 and carrying, adjustably clamped in a slot 60, a pin 63 for engagement with a slot 62 in a vertical lug on the plate 30; a detent 73 may be engaged with a notch 72 in the follower 53 to hold the latter clear of the cam when a two-hole button is being sewn. The button is held between a pair of arms pivoted at their inner ends and spring-pressed together, their spacing being controlled by a member slidable longitudinally of the plate 30 and provided with cam slots engaging pins on the arms.
