Abstract
685,495. Manure distributers. TEN- 1VENT, , H. B. Nov. 23, 1950 [Nov. 30, 1949; Aug. 2, 1950; Sept. 28, 1950]. No. 28729/50. Class 6 (i). An agitator for ensuring steady flow of fertiliser from a hopper on to a spinning distributer disc or into a passage through which the fertilizer is propelled by air blast, comprises a spiral spring 1 mounted on a spindle 2 with the lower end 3 rigidly secured by a lock-nut or welding and the upper end formed into a loop 4 having a loose fit on the spindle. The spindle is mounted in a threaded hole at the centre of the distributer disc. A claw 7 mounted on the spindle serves to clear the hopper outlet of obstructions. A scoop 8 strengthens the spring near the upper end 4 and throws the fertilizer to the centre of the agitator. The spindle 2 may be extended upwards through the hopper 15 to an .axle supported in a bearing also receiving the upper end of the spindle. The spring of the agitator may be a left-handed or a right-handed spiral and is constructed of malleable steel with square, round, angular or oval cross-section. To steady the flow of fertilizer to the distributer disc a flange 11 is mounted on the spindle below the spring. The height of the flange can be adjusted by a lock-nut 14. A metal sleeve 12 fitting within the hopper outlet 16 can be raised or lowered by means of wing- nuts 13 to adjust the sleeve edge 12a relative to the flange. A claw 7a for removing obstructions is mounted on a lock-nut bearing against the underside of the flange.
