685,461. Couplings. RUDGE, A. J., HOWELL, W. N., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 21, 1950 [Nov. 21, 1949], No. 29721/49. Classes 38 (i) and 41. A method of forming the connections to graphite or carbon anodes in fluorine cells comprises spraying a layer of metal resistant to the action of fluorine and hydrogen fluoride on the upper part of each of the anodes and electrically connecting a non-ferrous conductor thereto. The conductor may be secured by welding or by placing it in contact with the pre-sprayed anode and spraying more metal over the conductor and anode. Again, an anode may be inserted through an aperture in the cell lid and a layer of metal sprayed over the protruding end and the adjacent part of the lid. A conductor is then attached to the layer either directly as already described or indirectly, for example by bolting it to the lid. The cell may comprise a mild steel vessel having a heating jacket and serving as the cathode. Specifications 549,148 and 651,107 are referred to.
