[Also in Group XXX] A hand truck for lifting, wheeling, and placing a load such as a milk churn upon a vehicle, comprises two braced together triangular side frames each having members 8, 9 and 11, Fig. 1, the members 8, 9 being extended to provide handles 1 and foot supports 10 respectively. At the top the frames are also connected by a rod 14 forming a pivotal support for interengaged levers 15 and 20, the levers 15 having a yoke 16 at one end, Fig. 3, and curved handles 17 at the other. A bar 24 fixed at one end to one lever 20, carries at its other end a cam plate 25 which engages a pin 27 on the other lever 20. By moving the bar 24 towards or away from the rod 14 against a spring 28, pins 23 at the ends of lever extensions 22 can be brought into or out of engagement with the handles of a churn. In operation the pins 23 are engaged with the churn by tipping the truck forwardly and operating the bar 24. The churn may then be lifted and brought back against braces 7 by returning the truck to the wheeling position, Fig. 5. To raise the churn further for loading, Fig. 6, the legs 10 are rested upon the ground and the levers 15 are pulled away from a latch 29 and brought back over the top of the frame to engage and raise the levers 20, thus lifting the churn upwardly and outwardly. The levers 15 are then pulled down until the handles 17 thereon may be gripped with the handles 3. The truck may then be wheeled to the vehicle and the churn deposited by operating the bar 24. The levers 15 are then returned to the front of the frame. In a modification a scoop is attached to the ends of the levers 20 so that sacks may be loaded, links of equal length to the levers 20 being pivoted to the scoop and to the members 11 to prevent the scoop from tilting. The apparatus may be modified to lift two or more loads at once. In the first Provisional Specification a pair of straight and parallel cross-braced levers are pivoted to the top of the frames and are adapted to engage churns by forked ends, the levers being held by sprung stops on the frame when the load is lifted to the wheeling position. In the second Provisional Specification the levers are cranked and the forked ends provided with axially slidable sprung bolts for engagement with the churn handles. This arrangement is such that the frame can readily be lifted over the churn by raising the wheeling handles and drawing the truck rearwardly until the wheel axle is near the churn. The levers are then connected to the churn which is then raised to a wheeling supported position on the axle.
