Class 94(i) A machine for filling boxes of the match box or like type, of the kind wherein a distributer supplies the articles to be boxed to a dispensing device from whence they are transferred to the drawer of the box, the latter finally being inserted into the outer relatively sliding portion of the box, is characterised in that the dispensing device is arranged to be movable into a plurality of positions disposed in a curved path, in each of which positions it can receive said articles from a distributer, said movement being about an axis perpendicular to the plane in which the base of the drawer lies when the drawer is being filled. A horizontal rotating plate carries, at its periphery, an opentopped box-like dispenser 1 through match supply stations, a slide supply station, and a discharge station, where the filled slide is pushed into a shell. The dispenser 1 is secured to a vertical tube 2, Fig. 1, which is rotatable about its own axis so as to present the dispenser differently orientated to successive match supply stations. At the slide supply station a slide is inverted over the filled dispenser 1 by a device comprising, Fig. 3, a swingable arm 13 adapted to grip the slide between tongues 6 and having secured on a shaft 10 journalled therein an arm 9 carrying a member 8 adapted to enter and slightly to spread the sides of a slide 7 presented to the device. A gear 11 secured to the shaft 10 is adapted to roll on a fixed gear 12 coaxial with the axis about which the arm 13 swings, so that, as the arm 13 swings half a revolution to present the slide 7 to the dispenser 1, the arm 9 rotates one revolution about the axis of the shaft 10 so that the member 8 is withdrawn from the slide and an auxiliary arm 9a, carried by said arm 9 strikes the base of the slide to force it over the dispenser 1, the tongues 6 being then disengaged. At the discharge station, Fig. 6, the base 3 of the dispenser 1 is raised to lift the inverted slide and push the matches therein and the slide is then pushed laterally, by a member 18, through a guide 17 into a shell 16 brought adjacent thereto by a conveyer device 15, the shell being temporarily held by an abutment 18a. The conveyer 15 then reverses, the abutment 18a descends and the member 18 pushes the completed box from the guides 17.
