Abstract

685,142. Magnetic separators. RAPID MAGNETIC MACHINES, Ltd., and LANE, W. B. Feb. 19, 1951 [Feb. 17, 1950], No. 4080/50. Class 72 A magnetic separator comprises a grid formed by a series of spaced permanent magnets clamped between spaced parallel or concentric steel strips or bars, the grid being removably mounted in such a position that the material passes through the gaps between the bars and the magnets. As shown a series of magnets b are clamped between two angle bars a and separated from one another by steel strips d, like poles of adjacent magnets being in contact with each strip and the angle bars in contact with poles of opposite polarity. Ring bolts f may be provided for removing the grid for cleaning. The magnets may be round, square or triangular in cross-section and may have a hole or notch for engagement with a clamping rod c. The grid may be formed from concentric circles of steel strip with magnets arranged radially. The steel bars may taper from top to bottom. The Provisional Specification also states that the magnets in one row may be staggered in respect to the magnets in adjacent rows and the number of magnets in adjacent rows may be different.
