Abstract
683,335. Electrolytic regeneration of photographic fixing solutions. LEVERENZ, W. Sept. 18, 1950 [Oct. 18, 1949], No. 22826/50. Class 41. A process for regenerating photographic fixing solutions and recovering silver therefrom comprises subjecting the solution to electrolytic action, the solution being circulated by rotation, in the vicinity of a fixed cylindrical cathode, of electrodes consisting of carbon strips, rods or the like mounted on arms secured to a rotatable shaft. The apparatus shown comprises a cylindrical vessel 1, a cylindrical cathode 4, non-corrodible material such as chromium-nickel steel, and carbon anodes 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b suspended by arms 5 from a shaft 7 which is rotated. The anodes are in pairs, one anode of each pair being outside the cathode and the other anode inside the cathode. The shaft 7 is supported in a bearing 10 on which is mounted a carbon ring 11 connected to the positive lead of a source of current. The current is transferred to the anodes through a ring 12. Silver is recovered from the solution of electrolytic action, the voltage being from 6 to 12 volts and the current density being preferably 1 Î 10-3 amps/sq. cm. Acidity is restored to the solution by the addition of potassium metabisulphate.
