Abstract
682,029. Recording-apparatus. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1950 [Oct. 24, 1949], No. 22762/50. Class 106 (iv). Recording-apparatus comprises a carrier moved in a closed path to traverse a moving record strip and carrying a spring stylus which bends when in contact with the record strip and is characterized in that guide means are provided in the path of the stylus at the trailing edge of the record strip inclined away from the stylus path so as to contact the stylus tip and allow the stylus to unbend gradually during transit thereover. The invention is shown applied to a depth recorder wherein a record strip 11 is fed slowly over a backing plate 10 and a belt 12 is stretched between an idler pulley 14 and a pulley 13 coupled by pin and slotted disc to the shaft of a driving motor 19. A stylus 20 and brush 21 are secured to opposite sides of a metal frame 23 pivoted in a rubber block 25 secured to the belt 12 so that the stylus 20 and brush 21 respectively periodically traverse the record strip 11 and a conductive track 22 which is connected in a circuit for applying a marking potential to the stylus. To ensure firm contact between the stylus 20 and the record strip 11 the stylus is deflected from an angular position shown in dotted lines 20a while free from the strip but limited by a guide 30 to an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the strip when in contact therewith. To avoid fatiguing the stylus by an intermediate point thereof striking the edge of the plate 10 and to avoid vibration when riding off the other edge of the plate 10, guides 10a and 10b are provided at an angle to the plate 10 to ensure that only the tip of the stylus makes contact therewith. The guides 10a, 10b may be formed integral with the plate 10 as short extensions or ears. Specifications 666,263, [Group XXXVIII], and 681,441 are referred to.
