Abstract
681,959. Electric selective signalling. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. Dec. 28, 1950 [Jan. 6, 1950], No. 31456/50. Class 40 (i). In a selective signalling system using synchronous selectors at the transmitter and receiver, a magnetic amplifier is used in the receiver between a resonant circuit responsive to the signal pulses and the selector. As shown, a seriesresonant circuit 3, 4 responds to audio frequency control impulses sent over power lines 1, 2. The control voltage thereby developed across the inductance 4 energizes through a rectifier. 5 the D.C. control winding 6 of a magnetic amplifier 7. The A.C. windings 11, 12 of the amplifier are series connected with a rectifier bridge 13 and a synchronous motor 14 across the power lines 1, 2, but normally the impedance of the windings 11, 12, is so high that the current flow is insufficient to drive the motor. A control impulse saturates the outer limbs 9, 10 of the amplifier magnetic core 8. The consequential increased current flow in the A.C. windings 11, 12, enhanced by a regenerative winding 17 fed from the rectifier 13, starts the motor 14, which switches over a contact 15 to provide a self locking circuit, so that the motor drives a selector'switch 19 through one revolution when the contacts 15 again reverse. Further control impulses sent at the appropriate times during the selector movement, actuate solenoids such as 21, 22, over the selector wiper, to control local circuits e.g. as at 23. A condenser 24 effects series compensation for the inductance of the windings 11, 12. The synchronous motor may, alternatively, be switched in by a relay energized by the control impulse, and a mechanical selector e.g. as described in Specifications 633,195 and 642,479, [both in Group XXXVII], may be used in lieu of the electric selector..
