Abstract
681,501. Furniture combinations. BARRY, D. J. Sept. 19, 1950 [June 7, 1950], No. 22979/50. Class 52(iii) A combined berthing table and seating apparatus for use in troop and other mass transportation comprises a group of four vertical supports 21, a number of berth frames 30 vertically slidable thereon, a table 40 and benches 50 also slidable on the supports. Fig. 3 shows the benches 30 in stowed aositibn towards the upper end of the supports 21 and the table 40 and benches 50 in their in-use position. The berths 30 are each arranged for two occupants and are provided with mattresses laced to the frames which are clamped by brackets 31 to the sleeves slidable on the supports. The sleeves are held in selected positions by means of releasable locking pins passing through the sleeves and the supports 21. The table 40 has arranged at each corner a bracket slidable and lockable on the supports 21. The benches 50 are provided with foldable legs 55, Fig. 6, pivoted to the bench tops 54 at 59 and held in operative position by pivoted twopart struts 82, 84 a locking bar 86 being welded to each transverse pair of legs engageable by pivoted levers. Further berths &c. may be provided by means of additional supports 21 the brackets such as 31 being duplicated at each side of the slidable sleeves.
