Abstract
680,959. Automatic exchange switches. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 29, 1950 [Sept. 30, 1949], No. 23933/50. Class 40 (iv). The wiper carriage 3 of a vertical and rotary switch is driven in both directions by a screw gear 9, 10, which may be of any suitable form and is unidirectionally rotated by a step-bystep motor (not shown). During vertical stepping, rotation of the wiper carriage is prevented by the engagement of members 11, 15, Fig. 1, or 21, 22, Fig. 5. An electromagnet 14 withdraws the member 15 or 21 to allow rotary stepping under the guidance of member 13, Fig. 1, or 22, Fig. 5. The toothed members 11, 21 have deeper recesses corresponding to the last vertical step to ensure that rotary stepping takes place at this stage. In Fig. 5, the release of magnet 14 causes the member 21 to press upon the member 22 so that the wipers 5 are moved into engagement with the selected contacts. In a modification (not shown), the guide plate 22 has a toothed circumference. On the release of magnet 14, the member 21 enters a recess between two teeth and further rotation of the screw gear causes the wipers to be lifted on to the selected contacts. Release is effected by the motor and a restoring spring 6, the wipers completing one revolution along a path abcdea, Fig. 1. Specification 506,483 is referred to.
