Abstract

680,879. Chain-testing machines. GUTE. HOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES. Jan. 3, 1951 [June 1, 1950], No. 216/51. Class 106 (ii). [Also in Group XXII] In a machine for stretching chain links to a predetermined length and recording the force exerted in a continuous operation the chain is fed intermittently through the machine a few links at a time and stretched to a predetermined length by a fluid cylinder and the force exerted is recorded on a drum or indicated to allow overstressed links to be removed. The chain is supported on guides 5 raised and lowered by fluid cylinders 8, 9 controlled by reversing members 10, 11 actuating control valves. When the chain is raised a length of a few links is engaged by a grip plate 16 moved by a fluid cylinder 12 and a stationary grip plate 23. The limits of movement of the grip 16 during the stretching operation is determined by stops 21, 22 controlling a fluid valve and the pressure applied is indicated or recorded on a device 19 actuated by the reaction of the pressure cylinder which may be provided with relief means for the cylinder 12 when the maximum pressure is exceeded. When the chain is lowered a link engages a feed finger reciprocated by cylinder 26 and controlled by stops 28, 29.
