Abstract
680,768. Bottle-filling apparatus. ORIOL, S. D. Oct. 28, 1949, No. 27736/49. Class 125 (ii) Suction operated liquid filling apparatus for bottles and the like comprises a filler mouth piece 7 having a downwardly extending axially adjustable air removal tube 9, a suction operated bottle supporting arrangement comprising a piston 29 and cylinder 33, the piston 29 being adjustably connected with a bottle supporting plate 27, a vacuum chamber 1 connected between the mouth piece 7 and an air-removal pump and two two-way distribution valves 18, 35. The valve 18 is arranged in one position to connect a liquid reservoir with the mouth piece and in the other position to connect the reservoir with the lower part of the vacuum chamber 1 and to interrupt the connection of the chamber with the pump while the second valve 35 is arranged in one position to connect the cylinder 33 of the bottle supporting arrangement with the atmosphere and to interrupt the connection between the pump and the first valve 18 and in the other position to connect both the cylinder and the first valve with the air-removal pump. The vacuum chamber 1 comprises a glass or like bell whose edges engage a sealing ring 4 on a base plate 3 traversed by conduits 5, 6, conduit 5 communicating with the mouth piece 7 and conduit 6 with a vacuum pump. The tube 9 communicates with conduit 5 which extends into the vacuum chamber and is clamped by a packing ring 12 compressed by a screw ring 13. The position of the lower end 14 of tube 9 determines the upper limit of the liquid in the bottle. An annular space 10 in the mouth piece 7 communicates with conduit 11 through which the liquid is delivered. When the apparatus is operating first valve 18 is kept in the first position and the second valve 35 is moved from its first position to its second position and back to fill each bottle. The sequence of operations is as follows:-The bottle 8 is placed on plate 27, valve 35 is turned and the bottle 8 is raised, as cylinder 33 is evacuated, to engage the mouth piece 7, when air is evacuated from the bottle through tube 9 and a gravity valve 26, air conduit 11 is opened by the decrease in pressure; liquid then enters the bottle until it is filled to the determined extent when the second valve 35 is turned back, the bottle is lowered and the liquid supply cut off.
