Abstract

678,564. Conveyers. HAPMAN, H. W.YAug. 23, 1949. No. 21853/49. Class 78 (i). A device for dislodging material from a flight conveyer travelling in a conduit comprises an oscillatable knocker structure resiliently mounted adjacent the conduit for rapid vibratory motion toward and away from the conveyer, and a power-driven shaft carrying an eccentrically mounted rotor, mounted on the knocker structure for oscillating this structure into and out of engagement with the conveyer. Figs. 1, 3 show the application to a flight conveyer 13 travelling through a conduit 12 and comprising rubber or like discs 20 secured to an endless chain built-up of links interconnected by pins 17, the conduit being apertured at at 23 to allow material to be fed into a hopper 24. Material adhering to the discs 20 is knocked off by a hammer 37 extending through an aperture 22 in the conduit, the hammer being mounted on a plate 35. This plate is given an oscillatory motion by a flywheel 49 eccentrically mounted on a shaft 41 supported in bearing blocks 38 on the plate, the shaft being rotated by an electric motor 47 through a belt 44 engaging a pulley 43 secured to the shaft 41. The amplitude of the oscillations of the hammer is controlled by adjusting the position of the counterweight 53 which may be secured by a screw 54 in any one of a number of holes 52 in a disc 51 secured to the shaft 41. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6, a semi-cylindrical member 61 of resilient material is secured opposite the aperture 22 in the conduit and this is contacted by the hammer 37 so as to force its centre portion into contact with the flights 20. In a further modification, the flywheel 49 is replaced by three members eccentrically mounted on the shaft 41, these members being adjustably mounted on the shaft relatively to one another whereby the amplitude of the oscillations of the plate 35 may be adjusted. The hammer 37 is preferably made of elastic material such as rubber or synthetic rubber or provided with a coating thereof.
