678,320. Mechanical wheeled toys. MULLER, H. Feb. 8, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949], No. 3280/50. Class 132 (iii). A clockwork driven travelling toy has means to put the clockwork mechanism out of action when the toy somersaults. In Fig. 6, a toy mouse comprises a stop lever 6 which slides on the running surface in front of the rear wheel axle when the toy is running normally but which drops and causes a locking lever 8 to brake one of the running wheels when the toy is not supported on its wheels. A low centre of gravity necessary for somersaulting is obtained by mounting the clockwork mechanism low in the toy and by making the rear wheels small. The single front wheel 3 which may be eccentric, flexibly supported and of flexible material may move sideways on its axle so that, when the toy is running and rocking longitudinally, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), lateral forces are sufficient to cause the toy to roll over at least once.
