Abstract
678,153. Making nails and tacks. BOCJL CORPORATION. Feb. 24, 1948 [Dec. 21, 1945], No. 5497/48. Class 83 (ii). [Also in Group XXV] A continuous strip of nails or tacks is formed by slitting one edge transversely at 4, Fig. 1, to form points and longitudinally at 3 to form shanks all pointing in the same direction. Indentations 9A are formed in the continuous edge of the strip substantially midway between the ends of the slits 3, these serve to index the strip in the driving-machine which first bends down the shank and then severs the head. In a form to give a head with more surface, for use as an upholstery nail, the strip is wide enough to provide for the formation of a second series of longitudinal slits 13, Fig. 2, that are extended to form loops 14 in the middle of which the notches 15 are formed. The tacks are secured on the lines X-X giving large heads 11, 12, 14, Fig. 3. In another form the shank is slit centrally to form two prongs that are bevelled oppositely so that the prongs diverge on the tack being driven. Specification 678,189 is referred to.
