Abstract
663,157. Making nails. PORAK, W., and PORAK, H. Dec. 19, 1949 [Dec. 18, 1948], No. 32504/49. Class 83 (ii). [Also in Group XXV] A hollow sheet-metal nail is formed from a rectangular blank, by cutting away the hatched portions to form the point, the edges 6, Fig. 4, and the bottoms of the steps may be backed off to improve the cutting action. Barbs 8 are stamped from the shank and the end 5 is flanged over during the bending of the blank to tubular form. In a modification, spiral ribs are stamped on the shank. In a further form a blank cut to the shape 20, Fig. 8, has the upper end notched and slit at 23 to form the head when bent across the top and over the edge of the shank, itself bent to open rectangular form.
