Abstract

677,890. Unloading storage bins; unloading vehicles. HURON PORTLAND CEMENT CO. Feb. 5, 1949. No. 3248/49. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). A bin is unloaded by means similar to that described in Specification 677,891. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the body 1 of a trailer carrying cement 35 is formed with sloping walls 4, 4, 5, 5 defining two sloping wells which converge towards an outlet at the rear of the trailer. Below each well is a sheet metal duct 9 separated from the main body 1 by a porous wall 10 comprising finely woven heavy multiple ply canvas reinforced by a web of woven wire. Air supplied to the ducts 9 from low-pressure blower 18 driven by a motor 19 passes through the porous walls 10 to aerate the cement and cause it to flow freely down the wells, the inclination of which is slightly greater than the angle of repose of the material when thus aerated. The rear outlet from the body is controlled by a gate (not shown) and communicates through a flexible coupling 26 with a spout 25 formed with a lower air duct 28 with a flexible wall similar to the ducts 9 with flexible walls 10. A gas other than air may be supplied to the ducts 9, 28. In an alternative construction a rail wagon is formed with four wells above four air ducts 9 converging in a central outlet from which a spout 25 is directed towards the side of the wagon.
