Abstract
676,700. Contacting liquids with gases. JACIR, J. June 9, 1949 [June 29, 1948], No. 15420/49. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 30, 1949.] Class 55 (ii). [Also in Group XIII] In a liquid cooler, liquid from troughs 9, fed from a tank 7, e.g. through pipes 8, overflows on to and streams down a series of stepped surfaces 1, which are spaced by sinuous passages for the upward flow of cooling air and each terminate in a substantially vertical wall with saw-teeth 2 on its lower edge, from which the water trickles and falls into a receptacle. The surfaces 1 are formed by tubes, as shown, L-sectioned strips, or a bent metal sheet. The stream of falling drops are collected by metal strips 11 with inclined surfaces leading into troughs 12, or in staggered rows of troughs. A current of cooling air from a fan 15 is directed upwardly in contact with the falling water by baffles 17. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also apparatus, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), in which water overflows from a trough 21 on to a corrugated metal sheet 23. The trough may be inclined, or have corrugations of increasing depth from one edge to the other. To the outer end of each trough in the corrugated sheet there may be connected a downwardly-extending plate over which the water flows, or an inclined rod with downwardlyprojecting teeth. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
