Class 46 [Also in Group II] Screen material for a sieve or strainer is secured around its edges to a straining ring to form there with a screen unit, and the unit, is mounted between clamping surfaces comprising a lower clamping ring to engage the undersurface of the straining ring, an upper clamping ring to engage the upper surface, jointing material to make a leak-proof joint between the upper surface of the straining ring anc the upper clamping ring, and clamps which engage the clamping rings to draw them together. In the construction shown, the screening surface consists of wire cloth 12, the edges of which are bent :around a steel ring 13 and clamped thereon by a metal clip 14 which is drawn tight by a screw-and-nut connection (not shown). The ring 13 is held between flanges 21, 20 on two spun rings 18, 19 fitted within the upper cylindrical portion of a funnel 15, a rubber or other gasket being interposed between the flange 21 and the ring 13. The funnel fits within a ring 11 which is given a gyratory movement as in the apparatus described in Specification 562,210. The ring carries lugs 26 through which slide rods 25 provided at the top with dogs 24 which bear on the flange 21 of the ring 18 when pivoted cam levers 29 are drawn downwardly, and thus hold the screening surface in place. When the levers are raised the dogs can be turned out of the way of the screening surface. The ring 19 is split obliquely and has two lugs 32, 33, the key 33 carrying a rotatable bolt 36 which engages on a trunnioned member 38 carried by links 39 on the lug 32. The bolt 36 and links 39 form an adjustable toggle for tightening the ring 19 within the telescoping ring 18, the links bearing against the inner wall of the ring 19. The toggle may be slackened without unscrewing the bolt 36, by drawing the trunnion 38 inwardly to the position indicated by chain line 40, whereby the ring 18 is freed for easy withdrawal.
