676,099. Drying apparatus. WOOD, J. H. G., and MODERN HEALTH PRODUCTS, Ltd. Dec. 7,1949 [Dec. 7, 1948], No. 31651/48. Class 34(ii) In apparatus for drying foodstuffs &c. comprising a drying chamber 1 having trays 3 supported tier fashion on bearers 4, openings 7 being formed in one side of each tray and the trays being so arranged that the openings are alternately directed to opposite sides of the chamber, expansion chambers 8, a fan supplying heated air to the bottom of the chamber 1 and return air ducts 9 connecting the expansion chambers to a heater 10, each air duct 9 is fitted internally with a cooling water pipe 12 or a honey-combed radiator extending through the duct and with baffles 11 to cause the air to follow a tortuous path. Chamber 1 is divided by a partition 2 into two compartments each containing trays and each having an expansion chamber 8 and return duct 9, the trays having wire mesh bottoms 5 and flanges 6 formed with apertures 7, the alternate arrangement of the trays causing the drying air to follow a sinous path. The drying air has a temperature of 80‹F to 140‹F and the cooling pipes may be supplied with defrigerated water.
