Abstract

676,089. Razor blades. MULLER, 1'. Feb. 16, 1951. [Oct. 7, 1950] No. 3821/51. Class 30. [Also in Group XXII] One, or both, cutting edges of a safety razor blade 1 is provided with spaced, thinned spots bounded, on one side, by a ground surface 3 and, on the other side, by the unground surface of a hollow 2 in the face of the blade. The hollows may be of different depths and are preferably formed alternately on opposite faces of the blade. The blade is manufactured by passing a steel tape through a punching machine which makes locating apertures, and transverse grooves, at which the tape may be broken into separate blades. The tape is then passed through a press tool, which may be incorporated in the punching machine, and which comprises a die and a counterpart each having alternate U-shape recesses 12 and projecting studs 13 to corrugate the edge or edges of the blade. The tape is subsequently passed through rollers to reduce the depths of the corrugations, hardened, tempered and broken into separate blades which are sharpened.
