Abstract

675,682. Milling. LUCE, H., and HOMMEL, GES., H. Dec. 29, 1949 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 33256/49. Class 83 (iii). An attachment for machine tools having a vertically-adjustable headstock and a compound slide rest comprises an overhanging table which is adapted for mounting on the slide rest 1 and carries a headstock 4 for the work 6 and a displaceable rack 10 which meshes with a pinion 9 to rotate the work-piece. The attachment also includes an angularly adjustable guide 18 for co-operation with a slide-block 21 which is engaged by a pin on a nut 12 of a feed-screw 11 attached to the rack 10. The guide 18 may be mounted on the machine-bed 16 or the slide 1. In operation, movement of the slide 1 causes the work to be moved axially and rotated according to the pitch adjustment of the guide 18. The work, which may be a drill or a helical gear, is indexed by rotation of the screw 11 gauged by a scale on a hand wheel 13. An additional centresupport may be provided for the free end of the work. When the attachment is used with a lathe, the cutting tool is mounted in the headstock spindle.
