Abstract

674,843. Feeding sheets. BACKHOUSE, H. T. April 22, 1949 [April 22, 1948], No. 11098/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 100 (i). Sheets are separated from a pile by means of a suction gripper moved to engage and lift the top sheet of the pile, the movements of the gripper being effected or controlled by a valvecontrolled suction-operated piston-and-cylinder or equivalent bellows or diaphragm arrangement, and the cylinder being oscillated to forward or assist in forwarding the separated sheets in a direction transverse to the height of the pile; the cylinder is continuously connected to a source of suction the application of which is controlled by a pivoted flap valve sealing a port in the cylinder wall and co-operating, during the movement of the cylinder, with a stop which opens the valve to atmosphere to destroy the suction at the appropriate time in the movement of the cylinder. The apparatus is identical with that described in Specifications 674,842 and 674,844.
