Abstract

712,337. Feeding sheets. AKTIEBOLAGET DUX. Nov. 16, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 26962/51. Class 100 (1) Sheets are conveyed from a pile 1 to a conveyer by suction nozzles which are sucked inwardly of their holders 18 when they contact a sheet, the nozzle end plate 21 of each nozzle being tiltable to accommodate irregularities in the upper surface of the sheet pile, and the nozzle holders 18 being capable of turning individually against the action of a spring. As shown, a number of units each comprising a body 10 having passages 11, 12 therein to which suction and compressed air pipes 15, 16, respectively, are connected, is pivoted at 9 to a carrier 3 adjustably secured on a transverse rod 2. The body 10 is urged downwardly by a spring 8 against a stop on the carrier 3. The holder 18 is screwed into the suction passage 11, and has a guide 19 screwed therein in which slides a nozzle extension 20. The nozzle comprises a plate 21 grooved at 22 to accommodate, if necessary, an additional rubber nozzle 25. When the plate 21 is lowered on to the top sheet of a pile, suction builds up in the passage 11, and the plate carrying the top sheet is sucked upwardly until it presses a packing 23 thereon against the guide 19. The transverse rod 2 carrying the suction units then rises, moves to the left to release the sheet over a conveyer, then descends and returns be'ow the sheet to the original position above the sheet pile. Compressed air is blown from the passage 12 through smaller passages 26 in the body 10 to assist sheet separation. Since each nozzle body 10 is urged downwardly by the spring 8, it can adapt itself to the irregularities of pile height by movement about the pivot 9. Further, the extension 20 is a slack fit within the guide 19 whereby the suction plate 21 can tilt slightly to accommodate irregularities in the surface of the top sheet of the pile.
