Abstract
In the production of fine grained porous ferro-magnetic ferrites containing manganese by sintering a mixture containing the oxides of manganese and iron, the cooling of the sintered product is effected in an atmosphere, the oxygen partial pressure of which decreases with decreasing temperature. This may be effected by employing a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, the oxygen being obtained by electrolysis and the current being decreased with decreasing temperature of the ferrite, or by cooling in an atmosphere of superheated steam and inert gas when the dissociation of the water vapour will be proportioned to the temperature of the ferrite. According to an example, manganese oxide, zinc oxide and ferric oxide are ground, moulded and sintered in an atmosphere of superheated steam at 1250 DEG C for 2 hours and cooled in the same atmosphere.
