Abstract
674,601. Percussion drills. HELLEFORS BRUKS AKTIEBOLAG. Sept. 18, 1950 [Sept. 30, 1949], No. 22880/50. Class 124. In a percussion drill in which the crown 1 is secured to, or upset on the end of, the drill bar 2, and is provided with one or more transverse grooves in each of which are brazed two hard metal cutting elements 7, 8 the side surfaces 9-12 of which diverge from the centre towards the periphery of the crown, the end joint 17 (0.2 to 0.5 mm) is considerably thicker than the side joints (0.1 to 0.5 mm) which are considerably thicker than the bottom joints which should be as thin as possible. The divergence angle a is between 4 degrees and 10 degrees, and the total width of the outer ends of the elements constitutes 20 per cent to 30 per cent of the periphery of the crown. The axial flushing passage 4 may terminate at the inner ends of the elements (Fig. 7, not shown), or it may divide into two branches 5, and the outer surface of the crown may be formed with two side flushing channels 6.
