Classes 21 and 66 [Also in Group XXIX] A flexible walled, collapsable cask or like container comprises a cylindrical body and convex ends, the body and ends being composed of plies of rubberized or like cord or fabric, and their edges overlapping and being bonded together. The cords of the body are arranged at an acute angle, preferably about 52 degrees, to the axis of the containers, those in adjacent plies being in opposite helical directions. The inner and outer plies have thicker rubber layers to form a lining and coating. One or more the members such as 68, 70, Fig. 24, may join the ends, the tie members being secured to means' such as a reinforcing head 64 with lifting eyelets 67. A bung 77 may include a valve permitting the container to be charged with inert gas to preserve the contents. In making the cask, the body plies and the plies of one end are placed one by one alternately on a rotatable form 21, Fig. 15, with their edges overlapping. and being rolled into close contact by a roller. The form enters a pressure vessel 40, Fig. 16, against the edge of which an expanding chuck 26 presses the free edge of the body. Pressure in the vessel 40 forces it away from the form 21, partially turning the body, Fig. 18, so that the second set of plies may be joined with the free edge of the body, Fig. 21. A vulcanising chamber 42 is placed over the form and container and gas pressure is introduced between the contacting ends of the container to force them apart and push the vulcanizer clear of the form, Fig. 22. The door 43 of the chamber 42 is closed and pressure applied to the inside of the container and heat to the outside, to vulcanise it. During the building of the ends, metal rings such as 79, 80, Fig. 24, are introduced in the vicinity of openings in the finished container. The container may alternatively be made on a collapsable or destructible form.
