Abstract

673,920. Time switches. FLIGHT REFUELLING, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1950. [Dec. 19, 1949] No. 32513/49. Class 38 (v). A switch for making and breaking a circuit, e.g. that of a radar beacon, a number of times at predetermined intervals, comprises a fixed, conducting cylinder 14 having a number of holes 19 into which contact pins 20 may be placed in any desired arrangement, corresponding for example to a group of morse code letters. The cylinder 14 is fixed to an insulating plate 11 which is fixed to a metal mounting plate 10, carrying an electric motor 12 driving a shaft 22 over gearing 13, 23. Mounted on the shaft is a disc 25 comprising an insulating plate 26 having conducting parts 27, 28 recessed into its opposite faces. The part 27 has a hub 29 surrounding the shaft and a contact 30 which is wide enough to engage pins in two adjacent holes simultaneously, so that there is continuous connection between the member 30 and base 14 while the member 30 is passing over pins in adjacent holes, the connection being broken when it passes over unoccupied holes. The motor is started by a relay energized by an impulse from an electronic control circuit, the motor circuit being maintained over contact springs 45, 46, which bear on the upper conducting part 28. The latter has a radial slot 31 which comes into register with contact 46 to stop the motor after one revolution.
