Abstract

673,740. Cleaning pipes. LEDINEGG, M. Nov. 3, 1948, No. 28554/48. Class 99 (ii) The pipes of tubular boilers are cleaned by push-through cleaner bodies internally fitting the pipes like pistons with a clearance therebetween which are driven through the pipes by a current of water which is supplied by a pump and periodically reversed automatically by a switch-over valve. Each cleaner comprises a cover 27, 28 and scrapers 29 having opposed conical surfaces. One end of each scraper is pivoted in a hub 35 whilst the other end is in sliding engagement with a hub 33. The hubs are separated by a spring 34 and mounted on a bolt 36 which interconnects the parts 27, 28 and serves as an attachment for other cleaners. The scrapers move inwardly to pass an obstruction since the build up of pressure on either of the parts 27, 28 causes relative movement therebetween. The boiler pipes are provided with restrictions at their ends to retain the cleaners therein and with a by-pass pipe to store the cleaners.
