Abstract

672,533. Fuelling system. ANGLO-IRANI AN OIL CO., Ltd., and WILKIE, J. C.T. Feb. 2, 1951 [Feb. 4, 1950; March 10, 1950], Nos. 2952/50 and 6045/50. Class 116 A fuelling system comprises a fuel intake pipe connected to a fuel storage tank and a switch actuated by means connected to the tank when the internal pressure or volume of fuel reaches a pre-determined limit and a signal line connected to the switch for transmitting an electrical signal to a fuel supply unit when the predetermined limit is reached. The pump 1 is operated to pass fuel .from a tank 23 through a valve 25 to an air separator 2 through a meter 3 and a filter 4 to a pipe 7. The pipe is coupled with an aircraft at 8 and the fuel passes through a valve 10 to a manifold 27 to the tanks 28, 28<SP>1</SP>, the supply pipes having cut-off valves 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. Fuel off-take pipes 29, 29<SP>1</SP> are connected to the manifold by valves 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. The electrical circuit comprises a battery 21, indicator lamp 20, switch 18 connected to a solenoid operated valve 25 and connection 9 in series with fuel lever operated switches 17, 17<SP>1</SP> and pressure responsive switches 19, 19<SP>1</SP> in parallel with tank isolating switches 30, 30<SP>1</SP> and indicating lamps 14. 14<SP>1</SP> and 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. When the tank 28 is full the fuel level switch 17 closes, the indicating lamp 14 illuminates, and the valve 25 opens, shutting off the fuel supply. The filler tank is isolated by closing the valve 30 which operates the switch 13 short 'circuiting the tank. On opening the valve 25, fuelling continues to the other tank. If the fuel level switch fails to operate, the float operated air vent 16 closes and the pressure responsive switch 19 closes opening the valve 25 and illuminating the lamp 15. If the valve 25 is retained open by a short circuit the relay switch 22 is operated by outside earth 34 isolating the source of electric power.
