Abstract

671,258. Stacking machines. WALBERT MACHINE CO. March 15. 1950. No. 6511/50. Class 78 (iii). A platform 84 for supporting the work pieces 85 is mounted on angle members 30 connected to carriers 16, 17 movable on wheels 14 and 15 in upright channel members 7 and 8. Pulleys 41 connected to the carriers are connected by cables with pulleys 42 and winding drums 36, 37 mounted on a horizontal shaft 35 which is rotated by a motor 55 carried by a cross bar 4 and operating through reduction gearing which includes worm gearing 47, 48. The movement of the platform is controlled by control switches 59, 60 and an adjustable switch 62 all mounted on the upright 2 and by a safety switch 58 connected to the cross bar 4. The limit switches 59, 60 have rollers 64, 65 which are contacted by leaf springs 66, 67 on the angle member 30 to open the motor circuit. The adjustable switch 62 is mounted above the stop 59 at the height at which the platform is required to stop. A cam 69 is rotatably mounted on the upright and has an arm 71. When the arm is down the cam contacts a roller 68 of the switch closing the motor circuit. When the work pieces have been raised in contact with the arm it rotates and causes the roller 68 to operate the switch 62 to open the motor circuit. The arm 71 may be rotated to the out-of-use position, when another dwell on the cam surface engages the roller to close the motor circuit. If the topmost work piece contacts the safety switch 58 the motor circuit is opened. The motor circuit incorporating the switches cornprises a main switch operated by the switches through a solenoid. To start the operation a push button is first pressed and the motor reversing switch 63 is actuated to start the motor to raise the carriage from contact with switch 60. When the arm 71 is rotated the switch 62 opens the motor circuit. The reversing switch 63 is then manually operated to lower the platform until it is again stopped by switch 60 when the platform is reloaded and the process can be repeated. For lowering the work pieces a differently shaped cam 69 is used.
