Abstract

670,646. Floors and flooring blocks. TAPHOUREAU, F. L. Feb. 4,1949 [May 11, 1948], No. 3170/49. Classes 20(iv) and 87(i) A flooring unit comprises a square panel 7 with a tongue projecting round its whole periphery, and a keying strip 1 having a groove 2, 2<SP>1</SP> along both sides and a tenon 3, 3<SP>1</SP> at each end and having a length equal to twice the length of the panel plus its own width, the panel comprising a frame 4 with a number of flooring strips 7<SP>1</SP> attached to its upper face, the panel tongue being formed of adjacent tongue elements 9, 8 in the frame and facing and engaging in one of the grooves of the runner which is arranged so that one tenon is in alignment with the tongue on one side of one panel. The frame has a filling of insulating material such as cork, wood chips, fibre, &c.. and a plate 6 and strip 6<SP>1</SP> of similar material are attached by an adhesive, such as bitumen or glue, to the lower faces of the frame and keying strip respectively, so that the bottom surfaces are flush. The strips 7' are glued to the frame 4 and the resultant unit machined. to form the tongue 9, 8. The floor is assembled with a lug 3, 3<SP>1</SP> of one keying strip arranged midway in the length of a groove 2, 2' of a strip at right angles thereto, as shown in Fig. 2. The sequence for laying a complete floor and arrangements when the walls are not at right angles to each other, are also illustrated. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91, comprises also, instead of a separate frame and facing, a solid block with. a cork underlayer glued directly thereto, contraction joints being cut alternately in the upper and under surfaces of the panel, extending in the direction of the fibres of the wood, to a depth of about half the thickness of the panel and being packed with wax or other suitable plastic 'material. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
